Universal/Cherrytree: Stop Embarrassing Yourselves

June 10, 2009

OK. I didn’t want to blog about the Chantelle thing, because I don’t do gossip. I don’t care about gossip, I don’t care about members of Tokio Hotel dating. Not what I care to blog about. I enjoy the occasional semi-candid party pics, and it’s fun to see what other celebrities they hang with – but when pictures are framed simply as teenie gossip fodder, I don’t especially enjoy it. When it’s a clear PR stunt, it’s a bit more interesting, from an Industry and Media watcher perspective, but man, can it get old fast.

I’m not very comfortable snarking on a situation that involves the band’s private life at all, but this has gone on long enough. If Tom and Chantelle Paige want to hang out, whatever – let’s skip the official photos promoting it and the ridiculous little interviews with Chantelle where she sounds like a fanfic Mary Sue and drops all the info about Flipsyde’s new single, album, and video, for your purchasing convenience. It’s not cute. A few days ago, when it was just a little buzz and a picture, it was semi-cute. Now it just looks desperate and opportunistic. Universal, Cherrytree – reel it in. Stop embarrassing yourselves. For a woman you clearly want to connect romantically to a member of Tokio Hotel to come off as a user in your PR, with Tokio Hotel’s fanbase, is supremely stupid.

It’s true. I wouldn’t be interested half as much, or maybe it would be more interesting?, if I knew it wasn’t totally staged.
