Parasocial Interaction

January 26, 2010

Interesting cover feature on altpress.com on stalking and musician social networking.

This topic, of course, hits close to home for Tokio Hotel fans. While their most notorious stalker was finally ordered to stay at least 1,000 meters from Tom and Bill Kaulitz, we know Tokio Hotel stalking is still a serious problem. The band, to the dismay of many fans, does not utilize social networking sites in a way that gives fans a way to interact on a more direct, personal level (their Twitter, for example, is rarely used, and has never hosted a personal tweet from a band member). Do we really have to wonder why?
